Dissemin closure
For almost 10 years, we have offered the Dissemin service free of charge to researchers around the world. Its mission was to encourage open access to scientific research, by making it easy for researchers to deposit their research articles in online repositories. Initially a hobby project, Dissemin has developed over the years thanks to the support of many institutional partners. Over this time, we have made hundreds of scientific papers available, and have influenced the development of repositories and neighboring projects.
Unfortunately, as of 2025, we have not been able to continue developing the service: we have reached the end of our current funding, and do not have developers available to continue working on the platform. Faced with a significant recurring cost, dwindling usage statistics, and no perspective for improvement, we had to make the difficult decision of sunsetting the Dissemin service.
Hence, Dissemin is permanently closed as of January 1st, 2025 (following a two-month warning period in November-December 2024). All papers deposited via Dissemin remain available on the repositories in which they were deposited. The CAPSH nonprofit which oversees the Dissemin service continues to exist on this website and will remain available for inquiries. The Dissemin source code remains available on Gitlab under its current license (GNU AGPLv3).
If you have questions about the closure and what it means, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Also, if you have are interested in rebooting the Dissemin service with a comparable mission statement to ours (with or without the current codebase) please contact us as well!
We thank again our partners, collaborators, and users for a long road together, and look forward to a future where all publicly-funded scientific research is made openly available to everyone.
